Carrier Comfort Series - 13 or 16

AZMELBOJune 17, 2013

Hi ... we have a 3200 square foot home in Scottsdale AZ with two Carrier units. The compressor on one of them just went out (18 years old) and our repair man is recommending replacing the entire unit rather than the compressor. His recommendations are: Comfort 13 24ABB360A003 & Comfort 16 24ABC660A003. Fully installed (Condensor, Furnance, & Coil), the difference in cost is $1168. Any feedback on these models and recommendations for which option we should select would be much appreciated!!

Makes a difference.

I assume humidity is not a factor for your location.

One more question please.

Could you describe typical winter temperatures for your location?

I would assume cooling is way more important than heating but I may be mistaken.

Post back please.

Cooling is way more important. We only have 3-4 nights a winter that "freeze". Average evening temperatures at my home in January/February are 40-45.

Carrier is blurring their product line between the base and comfort series condensers. I would consider upgrading to the 24ACC6 model. It s quieter, a much nicer cabinet, has high and low pressure switches, and a sound blanket.

I would also ask dealer if 58PHX110120 furnace has a smaller model that supports a 5 ton condenser.
