Trane XL16i heat pump quote

rmbalisaJune 18, 2012

Getting quotes for an Trane XL16i heat pump in the PA region...here is what they plan to do for $8000. Good deal?

Supply & install (1) One Trane, XL16i, 4.0ton high efficiency air conditioning system, 17.0 SEER, 13.0 EER, 9.2 HSPF, ARI# 4385651.

Complete with: All low & high voltage wiring & controls, pad and whip for the outdoor unit, new supply and return plenums consisting of 1.0" rigid duct board (anti-microbial lined), refrigerant & condensate piping (pump equipped with 3/8" vinyl tubing, outlet, and safety wired), reuse the existing programmable Honeywell digital thermostat, custom sheet metal indoor unit pedestal, 15 K.W. resistance heater, removal and proper disposal of the existing equipment, and a full start up of the new equipment.

EQUIPMENT: 4TWX6048, TAM7A0C42H31, TBAYEVBC15BK1AA, BAYSPEC200A, R-410A REFRIGERANT, VARIABLE SPEED AIR HANDLER, TWO STAGE COMPRESSOR.

They also gave me a quote for an XL15i 15.5 SEER for $200 less, but isn't the XL16i better?

About what I expected with the good pricing. AHRI says this is a discontinued system. That is the old XL16i condenser that has been replaced by the G suffix. This usually means an improvement over the older model. Have no idea what though.

Ask for the G series.

Several other suggestions.

On the heat strip I would insist on Trane's two stage model, 10/15 KW.
I would want a pleated media filter cabinet.
New and correctly sized refrigerant lineset
At the minimum Trane 803 thermostat(HW mdl 8321) with outdoor sensor

IMO
