Furnace Not Functioning

mc87yanksApril 21, 2013

We just returned home from a short weekend trip and noticed that the house was very cold when we walked in the door. However, the HVAC fan was running continuously. Long story short, the fan runs continuously, even with the thermostat turned off and the Y&G wires removed from the thermostat. I rehooked up the thermostat and jacked up the heat, yet even with the fan running the pilot does not light at all. The only way to shut off the fan is to turn off the power switch to the furnace.

The model of the furnace is a Ruud UPGH-07EAUER. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Thanks

There are 8 ways to troubleshoot the problem and as follows

* First of all we have to be sure that the switch is on "heat" rather than on "cool"

* Check the temperature that was already set.

* Compare the temperature with the room temperature, Set the temperature higher than 5 degree compared with room temperature and see that the furnace got kicked on.

* Trace the thermostat wire that it got any breaks or not. If there are any break in thin wire, we have to rectify it.

* Replace the battery. If you have a power outage with a dead battery.

* Open the thermostat and gently blow out any dust or debris.

* If you can't make the program settings work, you can bypass them altogether.
