Painting Formica Kitchen Cabinets

Hmeownr456July 24, 2011

I have almond colored formica kitchen cabinet doors with the grooved oak trim on the bottom of the doors. The frame of the cabinets is oak. I hate the look, but remodeling isn't in our budget for a few years. I was hoping to see some before and after pictures from anyone who has painted these cabinets. I am worried they will look worse once painted or will chip and not be durable. I have black granite countertops so I was thinking of painting them white. I have read that they should be lightly sanded and then a thin coat of BIN primer should be applied. After that a coat of latex can be applied.

Any pictures or suggestions from those who have done this project before? Thanks!

I like t0 paint the formica cabinets in my husband dental office. I like to paint them a light beige or white. They are special made cabinets for dentistry and very expensive to replace. We only plan to work another 3-4 years., but need to dressed up like new and clean again. I need advise on how to do this. step by step.
