Replacing Kitchen Cabinets w/o Disturbing Tile Floor

mmhuebelApril 14, 2013

In the next few months, I hope to begin remodeling my kitchen - no plumbing or electrical moves because the layout is pretty good, but new cabinets, countertops, etc. Here's the potential problem: when we moved into this house 17 yrs ago, we replaced the ugliest vinyl floor ever with ceramic tile. We tiled under the dishwasher, stove and refrigerator, but not the base cabinets. I do not want to lose this tile. It is in the kitchen, the breakfast area and by the back door to the house - all connected. Is it going to be possible to remove the existing base cabinets without damaging the tile?

I would like to know the answer to this also as I am trying to decide if I should replace all the floors downstairs and finally install my tile, then install recessed lighting downstairs replace the carpets on the steps and install hardwood floors upstairs and do the kitchen next year or do it now. I bought extra boxes of tile to be safe.

Hope others see this tread and come by to help you and give me advice also.

If it's not too late and you haven't already done so, I suggest posting this on the "Discussions" side of Kitchens. This is the "Gallery" side that's more for finished kitchens and the like. The Discussions side of Kitchens is for on-topic discussions concerning kitchen remodels. You will most likely get many more responses over there.

Good luck!
