Trane XL15i heat pump quote

siry2jMarch 29, 2014

Hi all,

Looking for any help, looking for a heat pump system for Massachusetts area and recently had a quote for a new Trane system. The house is around 2100 sq feet including finished and heated basement, wanted to get your opinions, thanks!
4TWX5036B1 Trane Xli 15 High Efficiency Heat Pump TAM7A0C42H31 Trane Hyperion Air Handler with Variable Speed
BAYEV Trane Heater
LS25 Line Sets

$9500

The price seemed high to me considering some of the other quotes I have seen on this forum as I have been lurking. We are awaiting quotes from a Certified Carrier dealer as well.

You need to get at least 5-10 bids. I went through this drill with our last home and got 10 bids. The prices were all over the place for the same equipment. The idea "throw a number out there and hope it sticks" does not work for the home owner's pocket book.

You are in an all electric situation?

This is primary home? Any other heating source?

You are replacing a 3 ton with a 3 ton?

What thermostat?

Size of heat strip?

New lineset?

How do you filter return air?

Assuming this is a normal replacement with easy access and you are sized correctly, this is a great system but the price quoted is ridiculously outrageous.

IMO

In the process of getting many quotes!

All electric situation, there is a gas line very close, as in, 200 feet away but the gas company wants $100 per foot to get the main line to the front of the house, so $20,000 is a tough pill to swallow, followed by then replacing everything with gas furnace, etc. I WISH we could do this.

Replacing a 3 ton with a current 3 ton unit, with no real issues from my knowledge with access. Based on all of your prior responses in previous threads Tigerdunes I have already inquired about what thermostat, size of heat strip and return air filter. Waiting to hear back.
Good to know my thoughts about the price seemed correct, I am awaiting 2 other quotes and will be contracting another Trane comfort specialist on Monday for an estimate. Thank you for both your inputs. I will update this thread accordingly.

As a side question, do you think the Carrier Greenspeed is overkill compared to this Trane unit? Assuming we get a better more appropriate price point for each.

Ok so the carrier dealer got back to us with I think a really competitive price for a Greenspeed system here is all the specifications and model numbers below:
25VNA036A003
FE4ANF003000
Thermostat: SYSTXCCITC01

Price before rebates $13,600. After all current rebates the price is under $11,000.

Based on my prior research, should I be insisting on the F005 or F006 air handler? Any other thoughts or considerations I should think of?

Wrong air handler as far as performance/efficiency numbers.

You want the 005 or 006 air handler with the "L" suffix. See below.

What size heat strip?

How will you filter return air?

Hi all,

Sq footage without heated basement is approximately 1550 sq feet. 17.2 cents is our rate including delivery charges.

I asked for the F005 which was then quoted at $300 higher but obvious noted improvements in efficiency as you laid out with the numbers. Heat strip will be staged 9 KW. Air filter he has listed is One (1) Carrier Model GAPABXCC2020 Infinity Air Purifier - is this the air filter?

If you decide on the GreenSpeed, make certain of the L suffix model air handler. This has the aluminum coil.

The Infinity air purifier is an electrostatic air cleaner. Did you ask for this? If you don't have respiratory problems you could save some money and get a 4 inch media filter.

The electrostatic cleaners need some amount of maintenance. This one requires a cartridge replacement. Find out how much that will cost.

Here are the installation instructions to give you an idea how it works.

In regards to the air purifier... we did not ask for it but they are providing a coupon for the full cost of the purifier in the rebates. The replacement cartridge costs around $80-100 by a quick google search, with no upfront cost, should I still go with the media filter?

I am also ensuring the coil is aluminum. Thank you both for your assistance, greatly appreciated.

My 16x25 4 inch filter cost $33 from my HVAC contractor. My filters last 12-18 months.

If you are really getting the purifier for free, then I would want to know how often does the cartridge have to be replaced and how easy is it to do the maintenance.

Hi All,

I have attached the Manual J calculation the HVAC performed, does this unit seem appropriate for these calculations?

Thanks!
