Vintage Patons Pattern

lispetFebruary 22, 2007

I have a Patons pattern book no. 123. I would like to do one of the projects, but they list two types of yarn:

Patons Beehive Fingering 3 ply Patonised

Patons Carefree Canadiana Fingering 3 ply.

The same number of balls is listed for each type but there is no indication of whether this is an either/or sort of thing. The pattern doesn't instruct switching yarns in the project, but neither does it say that I could use either type of yarn (although that is my hunch). Does anyone have any experience with these types of vintage patterns? I've checked Patons' website, but they don't have an email contact listed and I'm loathe to write a letter and wait who knows how long for a response.

I'm at work right now, so I can't run and check, but I have a couple of vintage Paton's booklets too. I do believe they list them as either/or. Especially since there is no mention in the pattern to switch yarns, I would assume that which yarn you use is up to you.

The Paton's patterns sometimes give alternate yarns to use. Check to make sure the needle size corresponds but apart from that the directions are the same. I have an old shawl pattern that uses two ply or three ply - have used either one ok.
