Is a swamp cooler upgrade worth it?

DieterxysterMarch 24, 2014

Hi everyone. A little background, I have a ranch style house built in 1953 in Phoenix. The swamp cooler and Ac both need to be replaced. It will cost about $1000 +/- to replace the swamp cooler. Is the 1000 better spent on an more efficient Ac or are swamp coolers still a way to save some on power bills ? Thanks

Where you are located, swamp coolers are an exelent way to cut power use. In the Southeastern states they are near usless .

If you need to replace both the swamp cooler and the rest of the system, what is the total price you are looking at?

Many decades ago in Phoenix we had this arrangement called ''piggy back'' which was both AC and evaporation cooler. A few months after installation I got a promotion and a transfer and never got to use it but I liked the idea. Inquire; do they still ''piggy back''?

What will never change is that hot air rises and cool air descends.

Now hold on there buckaroo you know what they say,Ditat Deus.
Out there in Arrowzoner it's real warm when they are at the top of the earth where sun is shining and hot air does indeed rise. Only a short 12 hours later Phoenix is on the bottom where cool air rises , temperatures plummit and it gets downright cold.
And there you have it, life according to Klem.
