Central AC/Heat leaking water

Hello everyone: we are getting ready to put new hardwood floors in, and in preparation, we are attempting to "fix" an issue. In our hall, our AC/Heat unit will occasionally leak condensed water....in the past, we wouldn't notice the lead until the carpet was wet. Hubby would then clean out some type of pipe near the unit, and the leak disappeared. Obviously, we cannot have it leaking onto our new floors. Any ideas? Is there a pan or somethihng we can purchase? He is planning to perform frequent maintanance on the unit with hopes of preventing this. Thanks!

It depends on what is there now. Can you post some pictures or a better description?
