Thanks, GW, for 2 enjoyable (& very different) foodie evenings

BellsmomMarch 12, 2013

In an earlier post, someone inquired about food-related movies.
Thanks to GW and Netflix, a month ago we watched, eyes and mouths gaping, interrupted by an occasional guffaw, La Grande Bouffe.
Tonight, eyes and mouths gently smiling, DH and I watched Babette's Feast.

Toast is next. (And last, unless someone else comes up with another foodie film.) Tender is still waiting on my bookshelf for me to get to it. Maybe Toast will get me going on it.

We enjoyed both of the first two films immensely.

So, for yet another reason, I am grateful for GW and its generous posters.

And I am curious to know if more suggestions surface.

What about Julie & Julia or Ratatouille? No Reservations?

Thanks, CL. I have seen--and loved--the first two. Not the third. A friend mentioned it and I forgot about it. I'll put No Reservations on my Netflix list.

Compumom,
Thanks. Tampopo looks great. Good reviews. Not sure how I can get it, though. Not available on Netflix. I'll watch for it, though I am pretty ignorant about some of the newer technology.

Mostly Martha is the original version of No Reservations. A far better version.

Tampopo gives me massive cravings for really good ramen!

I enjoyed "Tortilla Soup". Light fare and funny.

All-time favorite is still "Chocolat". And Johnny Depp just made it that much MORE enjoyable. LOL

Has anyone seen Toast? Some Netflix reviews say it's too depressing. I'd like to know what CFers think.

Bellsmom,

I'm glad you enjoyed La Grande Bouffe and Babette's Feast. They made quite an impression on me. As you say, they are very different films. The best adjectives I can come up with are profane for the first and sublime for the other.

CloudyChristine, I just watched Toast, and I enjoyed it. Probably not for everyone, but I DID like it.
