Wood flooring in the kitchen ,practical?

alizacfDecember 5, 2011

I am redoing my kitchen floor (have laminate, before that vinyl).I do not want a hard surface like ceramic or stone because of back and feet problems. I am considering wood flooring which will provide a nice contiuous line from my hallway which is wood, But I am afraid it might not be practical in a kitchen. Anyone with experience in wood floor in the kitchen?

Have had it in most of my homes over the past 30+ years.

It works well and is much easier to stand on for any length of time.

The present house has ceramic tile that is on the way out.

The extra stiffness required for ceramic tile make the floor a PITA to stand on for very long, and it is not easier to clean than a wood floor (wood floors do not have grout lines).
