I would like to hear feedback about what it cost people for their soapstone countertop. Did the total bill include installation?
My soapstone countertops in rural Midwest are costing $4000 for about 50 square feet. That includes installation, standard eased edge, one undermount sink, faucet hole, and represents an L-shaped section and an island with one bowed side.
Mine were about 2700.00 for around 35 sq ft in Western Mass. Undermount sink.

As to your question, costs will vary depending on what part of the country/world you live in, what type of soapstone you pick, any extras (e.g., runnels), cuts needed, type of edge, etc. Usually you get an installed quote, even if you get your stone from one place and have it fabricated & installed from someplace else. (The fabricator purchases the slabs you've picked out & transports them to their workshop.)
When comparing prices, be sure you're comparing apples-to-apples. For example, some places will include a free cutout or some faucet holes in the base price, others will charge for each and every cutout and hole. So, be sure your quotes all include everything you need for your kitchen.
