Holes in terrazzo

albyNovember 6, 2011

I pried up some carpet tack strips from terrazzo which left jagged holes in the floor. What would be the best way to fill the holes so I can put vinyl flooring over it. I'd stick with the terrazzo, but it had never been sealed and there are patterns of old tiles on it that won't come off.

Also, is there a way to remove the nails without leaving jagged holes in the floor?

There is no way to remove the nails that will not leave a jagged hole.

A cementious underlayment patch will do the job. Look for brand names, such as Ardex Feather Finish (sometimes under the Henry's or Armstrong labeling) or Mapei's Planipatch or an equivalent product. Apply the patch, wait for it to set and apply another, if necessary, to bring the filled area flush with the terrazzo surface.

Don't use a gypsum-based patch.
