what kind of poly? advice needed

terdfergusonOctober 24, 2012

I have brand new wide plank walnut floors. They are oil finished, no poly. We like the natural look but it's just not practical with two little boys. I need low maintenance and these floors are not it. I find myself running around to wipe up every drop of water because it's spotting. And this is after many, many coats of oil. I don't want to have to worry about that. I want to be able to wipe up spills from the boys when I find them a day later if necessary.

Anyway, we decided we need polyurethane. We desire a non-glossy matte finish. Something durable for the boys. And finally something without a lot of fumes, again because of the babies. Thanks ahead of time!

If you are wanting to not have the burden on cleaning up spills right away wood floors are not the floors for you.

Polyurethane wont solve that problem. There isnt a finish out there that does that.
