Any Way to Avoid Part D *Penalty*?
DH has never been prescribed any expensive drugs, so did not take a Part D plan when they were instituted in 2006. This year he has been prescribed two expensive drugs: One Tier Two and one Tier Three totaling $4500/yr. retail. He needs to take a Part D policy for 2011.
His penalty for not having the coverage since 2006 will add $17.60 a month ($212/year) to his Part D premium *forever*. I'm trying to find a way to avoid this.
DH's former employer offers a Medicare Supplement Plus Pharmacy Plan that would provide *credible* drug coverage. If he took that plan for 2011, would he avoid the penalty for 2012 and beyond?
