Should Kitchen floor match Entry and Bathroom Floors?

SnowFlake888September 13, 2011

We are building our first home and are challenged in the home decor/design department. We are planning to have 17" ceramic tile, laid diagonally in the kitchen (brownish color). Does it look better to have the same tile in the entry way and all bathrooms, for consistency? There is another tile pattern that I really like and have considered putting that in the bathrooms (master and guest). Opinions?? Thanks!

I think this is a matter of pure personal taste. I (personally) like the same flooring throughout the home. This, in my case, is hardwoods through the main living area, the same tile in the two bath areas. I think having the same tile creates a feeling of flow thru a space. The house we purchased and are in midst of remodel had tile, laminate, engineered wood, slate, carpet, and a different tile. It made the space look so choppy. It looks so much bigger and more cohesive with two flooring choices throughout.

I have a dark slate colored tile by my back entrance and hall that matches the first floor bathroom because those areas are connected. If I had opted for tile in the kitchen I would have used the same tile there as well for continuity (we used wood, as in the rest of the downstairs). I used a different color upstairs, but the same everywhere (three bathrooms and laundry closet) partly for continuity and partly because I just liked it and didn't want to make any more decisions. :)

If you can see one from the other, then it does look better if they do match.

That goes for any flooring of the same media.
