Puppy Seeds and Rob...
Renee and Rob, I tried to post the recipe for the meringues last Monday, but work had other ideas. Please forgive.
Schoggi S. A Swedish cookie, meaning, "Chocolate S."
The 3-inch "S" is piped from a #1M star tip, onto two, parchment-lined baking sheets.
Sometimes I take the easy way out, and drop them from a medium-size ice cream scoop.
There, I've admitted it. No more secrets am I keeping.

Schoggi S
4 large egg whites, room temperature
¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
1¼ cups superfine sugar
heaping ¼ cup sifted, Dutch process cocoa
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
Preheat oven to 350°F. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in the superfine sugar, until the meringue is stiff and glossy. Beat in the vanilla extract (if using). Quickly, but gently, fold in the sifted cocoa.
Immediately put the meringue in a large pastry bag, and pipe the cookies 1½-inches apart, onto the prepared baking sheets.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes. Lower the temperature to 200°F, and continue baking until the cookies easily slide off the baking sheet, about 20 to 30 minutes. The cookies should be crisp on the outside, but with a chewy interior.
These will keep 2 weeks, stored at room temperature, in an airtight container. Yield: 18-20 cookies.
Because I'm trying to set a good example for Thumper, I only allow myself one cookie per day. And yes, it takes all the fun out of middle age. But you guys may have other options.

Puppy Seeds!!!!!!
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE TYPOS from the Cooking Forum. Thanks for putting a smile on my face, Sol!
Alexa
Oh and the cookies look good too!
Alexa, "Puppy Seeds" have been giving me a childish thrill, ever since it first hit this page 5-7 years ago :-D
Sol
Thanks Sol! That looks like something I'd like to try. And thanks for the reminder to go buy some "puppy" seeds, I've been dying to try lemon poppyseed cookies. Sorry I don't know who, I can't look at my recipe to see to whom credit should be given. You're a peach! So was it Renee who coined that typo? I'd love to know who made up POOP, POOF, and others... but that's another thread entirely.
In re: to your recipes... I really truly love love love your gumbo. Love it. The right flavors, and the roux is awesome, but it is way too spicy for me. I actually figured out (by adding more roux, stock, and meat) that I want it about 1/2 as spicy. I don't even use andouille in the recipe since it's so spicy; I use a mild sausage. And I like hot food! I was thinking last night, "That Sol must be some really hot chick or have asbestos tastebuds to eat her gumbo that hot!". But it sure is tasty.
Well of course Sol is one hot chick! Did you doubt it?
I also liked the "crap cakes" which I think was a typo by Ann T, but I could be wrong, LOL.
As for "poof" and "Poop", I think it might have been Nancy (wizardnm) that is to blame but again, I could be wrong.
Oh, and those cookies look good AND low fat. Good for those of us watching our cholesterol! So thanks, Sol...
Annie
Did I doubt she was one hot chick? No way, no how! But then, we have plenty of those around here. You and me included. That's not to say the dudes aren't hot, they are too. Good looking and talented bunch we are.
;)
puppy seeds! A classic!
I think it was Sue (Cookingrv), or maybe Marilyn, that keyed crap cakes instead of crab cakes but I think it was Wendy that coined carp instead of crap.
To this day I type carp for crap......
Sol, only one per day? I couldn't do it....the pic is killing me as I type this.
It was Sue who coined her crab cakes crap cakes way back when.... great recipes for sure.
LOL about the carp/crap thing! I do the same.
David
Sharon, I always type "carp" too. Weed will be with us forever in the form of "carp". And then there are "balls and nips". (grin)
Yup, we're all hot chicks, in spite of the fact that we aren't teenagers. Older and better, that's us!
Annie
I've done the math. There are only 60 calories per cookie if you make 18 cookies, and even better, 54 calories if you make 20 cookies. At that rate, you can have 2 and still not have as many as a candy bar! So feel free to make the 20 cookie set, and sneak an extra cookie per day. You'd still only have 102 calories total.
It's okay Annie and Rob, there's enough of this hot chick to go around. And if I keep eating Gumbo and Meringue Cookies at the rate I've been, there'll be LOTS MORE of me to go around. Hah!
Btw, we may not be 18, but we were...once. And we all survived.
David, I used to think "Crap Cakes" was Ann's typo. One more reason I no longer rely on my memory.
Sharon, another favorite typo was "Foof Processor," but I can't remember who's screw-up that was.
Rob, you dear heart, you went and figured out the nutritional value of these cookies, giving me the green light to indulge. I keel you.
Thanks for the laughs you guys! I'm off to enjoy this sunny weekend. I hope you'll do the same.
Sol
Will the puppy seeds grow in zone 5? My Siberians leave lots of crab or carp that would make great fertilizer :-)
Nancy
Thanks, Sol! I'm looking forward to making -- and eating -- them.
And when I came back, why the heck didn't I think it use puppyseeds as my user names?!? I'm sure that would not have been taken.
Yep, Rob, I confess, it was me. Always was a lousy typist, and half the time I don't see the typos. Heck, I don't see much of anything anymore. LOL! I wonder if I can claim a big screen LCD TV to hook onto the computer as an "adaptability necessity" on taxes? (Just kidding. I'd never do that.)
We are allergic to dogs..can we still eat them? :)
They are beautiful, Sol!
