Floor prep?

footwedgeSeptember 9, 2011

As part of our kitchen remodel we'll remove the parquet wood floor glued to concrete in the dinning room and foyer. We plan to go back with an engineered wood floor using a glued installation.

I plan to do the removal and need advice on the required floor prep prior to placing the new floor.

Read the instructions that come with the flooring you bought.

In general, it needs to be clean and level, with all the high spots of glue scraped off and any holes filled in with concrete patch. Any bumps and hollows will translate to the top layer of flooring and make it uneven.

If the concrete is on grade or below grade, you need to check for excessive levels of moisture and then address any moisture issues. You also need to use the adhesive recommended for adhering to concrete and properly prepare the surface for that.

The instructions that come with the flooring is a good place to start.
