old, rotten wood floors

skippy05July 5, 2011

We have to rip up very old carpets (from the 70's) & get new floors. I have no idea what to get or where to start.

Our floors are horrible, if you go down the basement & look up - you will see pipes, wires etc. then the floor from upstairs. I want to be prepared before I have someone come in & look at these floors. It is an old row house, over 100 years old. I really do not know what the old floors are? Pine maybe?? I don't know anything about wood.....

The basement is a cement basement.

Has anyone gone thru this experience in an old house?

Any advice, tips?

We have cats. So I would need something durable. I want hardwood not laminate.

I would like to go green & do bamboo BUT I would like to hear others comments about it.

ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I really need help. I live in Phila.

You need a local to help you with this project. Anything anyone on this forum tells you would only be "our best guess". You got WAY TOO many varibles to take a chance on internet advice.
