inexpensive kitchen flooring

Ema25July 6, 2014

We bought a house with a white tile kitchen floor that has a pattern of groves going in many different directions on each tile. Dirt gets stuck in each grove, and it is very difficult to clean. Once cleaned, it becomes dirty very quickly. We plan on gutting the kitchen in a few years, but I want to do something about the floor now. Any recommendations on an easy replacement floor, on the inexpensive side, which could be placed over the current floor?

FYI: The kitchen opens up to hard wood flooring in the dining room.
Thank you.

Have you looked at the Allure Flooring at Home Depot. We have put it down in several bathrooms, and a kitchen.

I love it. It's great for DIY.

Another vote for sheet vinyl. There are some nice-looking $1/sf options available at the big box stores that you can cut with scissors and use flooring tape to tape around the edges (no gluing required) for an easy DIY install.
