Changing Carpet to Stained Concrete

NewHmOwner2011June 2, 2011

I purchased my home in October of 2010. The carpet was in fair condition but I am not liking the carpet anymore. I want to pull the carpet up and just stain the concrete and seal it. I have researched a little online but nothing has been too helpful. I dont know how to remove the tackstrip, (I know that it could cause 1" - 2" craters, how do I fix them or prevent that from happening?) I have read a little on here but needing any advice anyone can provide.

We looked into concrete floors as a possibility, and the concrete contractor told us that if we were planning to remove the carpet ourselves to leave the tack strips. What the installers do is shear the tacks off at floor level to prevent the craters. I have no idea what tool one would use to do that but I guess that's what they do.
