Extending wood floors without ruining existing--can it be done?
We're redoing our kitchen, including tearing down an existing pony wall between the kitchen and family room. We were hoping to extend the existing wood flooring from the FR throughout the whole kitchen, but our contractor swayed us away from that idea. He says in order to make it look natural, he'd have to rip out a large part of the existing flooring in the FR before laying down the new to give the appearance of a natural transition. Has anyone gone through this before with experience to share, or any flooring aficionados have any thoughts? Thanks.
