Ready made roaster chicken

eileenlaunonenFebruary 10, 2013

I bought a roaster chicken on Thursday. just seen I have the other half in the refrigerator I wanna make chicken pot pie for tommorrows dinner. Is this safe to eat it has been on the bone since Thursday! Sorry to ask a silly question but with this storm the kids had sooooo many teens over I had to buy pizza and improvise. I did make Gnocchi Chicken soup but I have a 1/2 large chicken left breast wing thigh I hate to feed it to the pets .can I stilluse it?

If your refrigerator is consistently below 40F, and if where you bought the chicken from has always maintained a sanitary condition and handled the chicken properly, I don't see why it should not be OK to eat the leftover chicken.

Assuming your power has been on the entire time, I would absolutely use it.

I would have smelled it first. Chicken that smells off is obvious.

I agree, if your refrigerator works well and you've kept it refrigerated, I'd eat it.

As Ann T mentioned, chicken that smells "off" should not be consumed, of course. I find that the "rotisserie" type chickens in local stores are so heavily salted and seasoned that I can't detect the smell until they are quite a lot "off", though.

If it doesn't smell or look bad and if you are essentially cooking it again in the pie, you should be fine.
