Woodshed Height Problem

iambarnmanDecember 7, 2012

I am building a woodshed that measures 12' X 8'. The two front posts are 8' high. The headers which are 2X10s and the 2X6 rafters are in place. The rear posts are 6'. Including purlins and roofing the front is nearly 10' high. I think the front is too high. I can live with the look. My question is, can I jack the header and rafters, remove the lag bolts from the 2X4s that are holding the header to each post and cut 1' off the height of the front posts and lower the header back in place without having to recut the rafters? Am I crazy, yes! But, I thought I would ask.

The steeper roof pitch has some distinct advantages. Consider what the pitch would be with your planned alterations in light of the roofing materials that will be used.
