Cork Flooring expansion joint

esteffenJune 18, 2011

Hello,

I have been told that you have to install an expansion strip if your room is 30 feet or longer in any direction. I am wondering if anyone has installed cork without this strip? What is going to happen if I do not use an expansion strip?

TIA

"Orient the flooring so you stay under the 30' across the grain" is the pat answer. But cork has no grain. Does the manuf. have a tech line ? If these are glue-down solid cork tiles, there is no issue, as the material is going to move in concert with the underlayment. If it's an engineered product over a substrate, the tech line is your best hope.
