looking for transitional/contemporary 7.5' backplate

ctaylors6October 18, 2011

Hi - I'm trying to update some furniture. On the doors (8 of them), there are 7.5" long backplates behind the knobs. They're a burnished brass, and I'd like to get hardware that's more in the silver/nickel group. I have looked online for hours and can't find any backplates that are that long. Unfortunately they're hammered a little into the doors, so they'll leave a mark unless they're covered so I can't go for a shorter length without refinishing the doors.

Has anyone ever seen backplates that long? Maybe they have a different name at that length? I'm open to any suggestions!!

Thanks so much in advance!

Sometimes called sideplates or escutcheons

I see what you mean. There is nothing that long, or else it isn't in the right material. You might try checking with a local machine shop to see if they could maybe fabricate something for you. You might also try asking at the link below
I wonder if you might be able to get the existing ones plated or something too.

Have you considered antique ones? Sometimes the designs on them - especially an Eastlake design can be pretty transitional/contemporary looking. I had a small collection that I was working on, to refit a house I owned, but I sold them. Many of them I found on ebay, All were billed as brass, but after polished, some were actually nickel.

Just a thought. :)
