Problems with Garage Door Opener

Farhad_MalikDecember 28, 2011

I have two craftsman 1/2 HP garage door openers for about a couple of years now and both have been working fine. I came home this weekend and one of the doors isn't opening anymore. I checked to see what the problem is and when I try to open the door, the belt seems to be turning the wrong way, where its trying to close the door instead of pulling it back. Basically, instead of moving back, its going forward and then stopping since the door is already closed. Any suggestions?

Okay you can also try adjusting the down limit control. This is a control on the side of the motor unit and you need to turn it in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Turn it at least 3 full turns to get the door to stop short and then you can tweak it to the proper position. This is if the opener is a chain drive.
