another Craftsman Garage door opener question

joanneljOctober 23, 2006

I have a model 139.53636SRT. I think it's about 12 years old. It decided it wasn't going to close anymore. The light comes on, and it hums for a second, then clicks. The light does not flash, like it normally would if something was blocking the sensors. I checked the sensors, they both have a solid green light, which goes away when I stick my hand in front.

Since it was cold out, I pulled the release cord to lower it. But now it won't go up, and I don't know how to lift it manually.

So my 2 questions: how do I release it so I can lift it manually, and what might be keeping it from working?

Thank you so much - this is my mom's garage, and I don't want her to have to worry about opening the door - especially now that winter is starting.

The springs on the door should be adjusted so it is easy to raise.
1. the springs may be broken. a wire may be broken or off the pullies
2. add some oil to the roller "bearings"
3. find some local help to solve the problem
