garage door wont open

hulaskirtOctober 4, 2009

I have a garage door that won't open. Last night we had a terrible thunder and lightning storm. Now my door won't open, all it does is whine. It worked before the storm although at times it was tempermental and would stop in the middle. It is a older opener, not sure how old because we just bought the house last year. I noticed a green light that flashes on the inside. Sorry for the ignorance I just don't know. Any ideas?? Is it fixable or should I replace it?

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. Sounds like it is probably stripped.
