Craftsman garage door opener problem

bubba3579October 30, 2006

I have a 6 year old 1/2 HP Craftsman garage door opener, and it stopped working the other day. The opener only makes a relay noise and the side lights come on from all the remotes and wired door switch. There is no motor sound at all. Cameras work (they blink the lights rapidly when crossed).I checked the door operations, and the door is lubricated and balanced properly. The next day the opener started working again, but stopped working several hours later. Bad start cap? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Disconnect the door from the opener and raise and lower it by hand to see if there are any rough spots. If not, on the rear of the opener near where all those white wires go you will find a 'down/close force' control. Increase this just a bit. Don't overdo this control as it also affects the safety reversing system of the opener.
