older craftsman garage door opener problem

dalanOctober 11, 2010

Have an older model, 2 remotes 139.53887 and wall control work fine. But suddenly wife's '99 Mercedes SLK when engine starts up causes door to close or open. Remotes have 9 numbered dip switches: if those are changed, how does receiver unit get changed to agree? (Assume that should fix problem). Thanks -

There are two possibilities. One is that there is a set of switches on the rear of the motor unit and they need to be matched to the remotes. The other possibility is that there is a smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit. Hold this button in for 6 seconds and it will erase all the codes it has remembered and your remotes will no longer work. After changing the dip switches on the remotes you will need to hold the button down on the remote and then press and immediately release the smart/learn button. This will program it to the new codes of your remotes.
