Cabinet refacing material to cover coffee table?

ynnejSeptember 18, 2011

My husband is building a coffee table. He used a cheap plywood and is now realizing that this wood is not so attractive. I was wondering if it would be possible to cover it with cabinet refacing material? It's a very simple design- no curves.

Just use veneer, there are hundreds of different types and species. Many beautiful and expensive antiques are veneered.

Thank you. I wonder why Lowe's doesn't carry it?

Check with a lumber yard that carries hardwoods. A little too specialized for Lowe's or HD. Talk to a local cabinet maker, he'll know.

I like to order from oakwood. I have never been unhappy with their products.

Here is a link that might be useful: Oakwood veneers

Rather than a veneer, how about parquet floor tile?

Unless you have something really nice to edge it with flooring will look a little clunky. Even then you'll have a thick applique on top of an existing base and unless you have some real skills it will end up looking like something out of a 7th grade wood shop.

Been in the cabinet and furniture business for a long time.
My advice is to search the internet in your home market for some quality veneer material in what ever wood specie you prefer to use.
