Genie garage door opener with aftermarket remote wont close

alaska_rainmanAugust 22, 2006

I have a 20 year old Genie garage door opener that will open fine with the wall switch and with slight persistence with the remote (which is a Home Link unit). The door will not close unless the wall button is held down until the door is all the way to the floor. If the wall button is released before then, the door returns to full open position. With the remote, closing requires patience and when it does start, the door moves down about 2 feet and then returns to full open position. Want to get this figured out before winter. Thanks

Sounds like the safety sensors in the doorway are not properly aligned. They must be pointed at one another for it to work.
