Replacing Craftsman gdo #13953919 w/# 53918

Hi everyone.

My Sears Craftsman belt drive GDO, (Model#13953919) has died. It is about 5 years old.

I purchased a 3/4 horse Craftsman belt drive GDO (Model 53918) as a replacement.

Was wondering if I can use the current rail/belt assembly, without taking it down, and simply replace the old motor unit and install the new motor unit in it's place.

Is this possible?

What should I look out for?

Thanks for you assistance.

I see no reason why you can't as long as the rails are the same. You will have some spare parts just in case.

Hi Don,
Thanks for the answer.
I replaced the motor unit, and everything worked well, just had to replace the outdoor pad, and the car units. The sensors and indoor pad worked w/the new unit.

Can anyone suggest the type of greas to use for the plastic gear/belt?

The grease that comes with new gears is called Lubriplate. I'm pretty sure you can buy it at Home Depot in the garage door opener area.
