Oyster slate

moxiemomApril 28, 2011

has anyone heard of or used Oyster slate tiles? we are putting in a new kitchen floor and using slate for sure.

Local well stocked flooring supply stores had nothing that seemed quite right so did online search and finally found Oyster slate. Lots of suppliers in the UK, but only found one here in the states so far.

Does anyone else have any info on any other places to get this slate? It has a unique texture that we want for anti-slip properties for our dogs, and looks remarkable.

Anyone used this before or seen it?

cheers!

its also called desert gold, and can also be classified as a quartzite. Might be able to point you in the direction of a supplier...whats your location?
also remember if you are looking at a sample, it could have been quarried months or even over a year ago, and what is currently coming out of the quarry might be slightly different....thus not seeming quite right.

We are in South Bend, Indiana. Will check out Desert Gold and see what it looks like. So is a quartzite the same thing as slate ? or something different?
Got the samples last night and they are awesome! It is really unique and even more interesting than I thought it would be. will try to take a few photos and post here/
thanks!!!!

Hi moxiemom,

Just wondering about your quest for oyster slate? We're in MA and love the look from online images. Any additional info? Thanks!
