Can you put a metal shed next to a house?

Gardener972May 3, 2010

I mean RIGHT NEXT to the house! We want to put a metal shed in our yard but the only place would be up next to our house (brick). There is a two foot overhand on the house. Do you see this as a problem or a place where rats can breed or insects can collect between the shed and house or should there be a space between the two and, if so, how much? If this isn't correct, what do you suggest?

I'd suspect that if you can't clean the space between the structures every now and then, only attaching and sealing the shed to the house would keep something from breeding there.

In most jurisdictions, a shed requires a building permit. The permitting authorities may not allow a shed to be installed in the manner described here.

"...most jurisdictions, a shed requires a building permit."

Most places make an exception for sheds below a certain size (square feet), especially if they do not have any power run to them.
