Built-in window seat height?

lesinsfAugust 22, 2009

I am remodeling my 14' by 18' living room and putting in new windows. I am trying to create a panoramic view effect with two 5.5' wide windows on the west wall meeting two 6' windows on the south wall. My big dilemma is how tall should the windows be? The walls are only 8' high (it's a 1965 ranch home) so I will keep the top of the windows at the same height as the doors (6'8"). I would like to put built-in seating in the corner so should the sill height be at 32" (4' window) or 26" (4.5' window)?

Thanks for your input!

Just to note that the standard average height for a seating chair (e.g., dining chair) is 18" 24" is counter-top height and 30" is barstool height.

I seriously suggest you mock up a seat of your planned height and see how it works for you.
