Troubleshoot garage not closing properly (no sensors)

tonylcMarch 3, 2014

My garage door doesn't close down all of the way. I have been noticing that its been squeaking a lot more than it used to, which made me thinking it was having a hard time closing the door. When the door closes about 3/4 of the way, it usually stops and reverses. I have manually tried closing the door and noticed that when the door goes across the tracks where it bends, I feel a lot of resistance. The tracks themselves don't appear to be bent. Any ideas?

Are the rollers and cable pulleys turning freely?
Is/are the spring/s or cables fouled? Are the cables frayed?

I ended up hiring someone to stop by and take a look. It was as you suspected the rollers and cable pulleys weren't pulling up as easily. He lubricated and reset the spring to have a strong tension.

Cables were fine and springs were fine. But its possible that springs and opener need replacement in a few years. Luckily he didn't charge me too much for the minimal job to get the door working again :)
