1/2 HP Craftsman garage door opener photo eye reversing

gnip187March 28, 2011

I recently put in a new main gear in my Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener. After putting everything back together, the garage door opens and closes fine, and will stop and reverse if it hits something on the way down.

My problem is with the photo eye's. When the laser is tripped, the door tries to close instead of opening. I've checked and double checked the wiring, but can't find anything. Any ideas?

See if this helps. This should get everything back into proper sequence.

Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit. With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain. Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.
