Hardwood floors lack shine

Swetag81April 1, 2013

Hi All,
We recently bough a home and had the floors restained. Ran into some problems with our first contractors and so a new guy had to come and finish off the job. The second contractor, when he finished the house remodel, applied varnish to the floors. Since cleaning the house so that it's ready to be moved into, I noticed the floors don't shine like I want them to.
And so my question is, since we have no furniture in yet, is there something I can do to get a shine to my floors? I noticed Bona makes a shine, but the downside is that you need to do it every 2-4 months. I don't think I can move my furniture every 2-4 months to re-shine my floors. Is there something that I can apply that will last at least a few years?

If you want a shinier finish, pay the floor finisher to put on another coat of something glossier. Before doing so, have him tell you what the pitfalls are of using a shinier finish. You should not put any polish on a newly finished floor.

Shiny floors are a real PIA to maintain. They show everything. Beware of what you ask for!
