My GDO doesn't work right

Help! I recently replaced the main drive gear and worm gear on my Sears 1/2 hp garage door opener, model 139.53535SRT1. Now, after I reconnected everything the only travels about 8 to 12 inches each way. I also noted that the LED bulb next to the code button flashes five times, then pauses. It continues this cycle. Can anyone tel me what the five flashes stand for?

The 5 flashes means 'RPM sensor or motor overload'. Did you remove the black plastic interrupter cup when replacing the gear? Also check to make sure the 4 wire connector to the RPM sensor board is plugged in solidly.

Is that the cup that goes on the motor shaft after everything is put back together? If it is I believe my chocolate lab might have had it for a snack!

Yes that is it. Maybe tomorrow you can recover it and get your opener operating again. Wash thoroughly.
