How to reprogramming a Craftsman garage door opener / remotes?

bluebomberdudeFebruary 22, 2007

The opener is a Craftsman 1/2 HP 41A5021-3E and the remotes are 139.18076.

Our door was opened up overnight so I'm assuming someone else in the neighborhood has a unit operating on a similar code. I've reprogrammed other units in the past, but this system came with the house and I don't have a manual.

It says on it that I can clear the codes on the remotes and program them in again... but I'm wondering how to actually change the codes/frequencies that it's currently operating on again so we don't have a security issue.

Thanks :)

You can't change the codes of the remotes. When you erase the memory of the receiver and then reprogram you will be putting the same exact code back in. Your only option is to replace the remotes or to buy another opener. FYI the odds of someone else opening your door are so high they are almost non-existent. It is more likely you have a bad wall control or the wires from that control to the motor unit have an intermittent short caused by the staples. The model number of your opener also starts with the numbers 139.XXXXX.
