What is best way to insulate garage doors

edweatherJanuary 23, 2013

We live in Central New York and have a pair of lightweight fiberglass garage doors. It looks like there is a space on the door to receive some sort of insulation. What is the best way to do it? I've only begun to research this and it seems that there are kits from big box stores that work ok, with maybe additional foam boards, tape, etc. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. Ed.

The best way is to start with an insulated door and have it installed with the proper seals and weatherstripping.

I would use styrofoam sheets.

To meet most Codes, the polystyrene should then be covered with a thermal barrier. But as pointed out above, without tight seals, it's pointless.
