vintage/antique/or just old? Furniture tutorail

nosoccermomJuly 23, 2012

This may have been covered somewhere else, but how do I figure out whether I'm dealing with an antique, vintage, cheapo 'old' table, or a well-built table? For example, the pine table below. I fyou hav eany links that help me educate myself, please post here.

Thank you so much!

There is no easy 3 page answer. For well built furniture, ask a wood worker....not a sales man in a furniture store....
Ask a reupholsterer.....and look underneath at how furniture is made.
Then learn to recognize the classic styles of antique furniture. The book linked below is a good basic info sort of book.

The table you linked certainly appears to be cheap-o modern junk.

Just ordered the book. So, if I'm looking for a sturdy table that can take abuse because it's already part of its look, i.e. nicks, dents, etc. , what do I look for? Basically make sure it's not wobbly and not veneer?
