Genie Garage Door Opener Remote Problem

natewallJanuary 10, 2009

I have a Genie Series IS, ISL, IC (With Intellicode remote). The remote will no longer open the door, unless it is within 10 feet, or so of the motor drive. The problem has been slowly getting worse over the past year. The Owner's Manual simply says to "replace the remote battery" if this occurs. This does not help at all. I even verified the battery is good with a volt meter.

My thought is that the opener frequency has shifted due to the aging of the components. It appears that there is no frequency adjustment that is "user friendly". There are several electronic components in the opener with adjustment slots, but the circuit board must be removed to access them. (I removed the cover to the electronics on both the remote and the opener).

Any ideas short of buying another opener? I think this one is about 5 years old

It is either the remote or a bad circuit board. Genie circuit boards are notorious for having problems with them. I would buy the remote first it is cheaper.
