How much is this wood worth?

va_rosemaryDecember 20, 2007

We have approx. 8 cords of unsplit hickory, ash and oak logs on our property. The trees were cut down a year ago so are seasoned. I don't need all of this wood and am interested in making a deal with a local lumberjack that has done some tree cutting for my sister. We would like to keep a cord for ourselves and have him split it for us and then haul the remaining logs off the lot. I know things vary by region, but wanted to get a feel for what I should expect to pay for this service, if anything.

Don't know where you live, but I am in Vermont. The logger who hauls that wood off will make about $1200-$1600 dollars once they get the wood split. They will use little resources in hauling, just gas and manpower. I would say that someone should pay you for the wood and give you the 1 cord you want for free or for a small deduction from their cost.
