Can Anyone Help?

coachc20April 13, 2013

I just got some old wicker chairs at a garage sale, one is a rocking chair and the other is just a chair. The problem is I know nothing about them and google searching hasn't seemed to be able to help. The information written on the rocking chair is:

Emunson & C. Spangler MFG. Boscorbel, Wis.

Does anyone know anything about this brand or company. The chairs are roughly 70 years old I'm guessing. Any help would be appreciated.

They look like willow furniture to me, not wicker.

I agree with Yorkies I do not think these are made from wicker. Willow is a possibility.

I think it's bent (steamed) willow, too - it looks like the bark has been removed, yes?

they're really nice examples of the work, they're a good balance between ornate and rustic.

twig and other 'bois' furniture was popular from the late Victorian period all the way through the depression, I'm guessing these are 20's or 30's, but that's totally a hunch.

I'm used to thinking of the stuff as being made by people with a willow stand, not manufactured, so I'll guess it was a fairly small shop, one that may be long gone.

you might have more luck trying the town's librarian or historical society.
