banquette ? what size table?

lesdearApril 24, 2008

i am starting to plan the addition of a banquette to my informal dining room. I'd like an L shaped banquette and just wondering what size table will i need in this space? i will have enough space on the "open" side of the table for 4 chairs i think. i know a pedastal table is the way to go, but is round, square, or rectangle better and what size? any input at all will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

As a very general rule, allow 24" of linear space for every seating area as a minimum. To get an "L" shape, you'll probably have to go with a custom table you will have to commission.

One other consideration...width should generally not be wider than 48" as it makes it difficult for diners to pass food across to one another without leaving their seat.
