Dining room furniture delima

fnboydApril 8, 2009

I have a dining room set that my husband and I purchased from an elderly couple when we got married 34 years ago and the set was probably 20 - 30 years old when we got it. It is mahogany with shell back chairs but nothing fancy. The maker is Thomasville Chair Company with I think is just Thomasville now. A lot of the vaneer is peeling off the front of both the china and the buffet. I was going to get it refinished but my husband wants to get new furniture.

Is it worth $1000 to have it refinished or not? What do would you do in this case?

Thanks for any advise you can offer.

Do you REALLY like the set or not? If you do still like it, then I'd have it refinished, since a new set will cost way more than the $1000 for refinishing.

If your tired of it, then after 34years, its time to buy new, or even check craigs list for another slightly used set you might like better.
