Paint for fireplace?

Naturalchick27September 19, 2011

I have a fireplace(non-working) which was painted all black by the previous owner. Can I prime and repaint it? Or do I need to somehow remove the existing paint first? Also I need siggestions for colors. The living room walls are white. My dining room is a candy apple red with dark wooden dining room table and chairs.

Would love a photo of your current room but yes, you can just prime and paint over it. If you go from light to dark you will likely have to do quite a few layers of primer.

If it looks like this, I think you're just fine! You can have a lot of fun with this color-way - maybe you just want to update the black paint?
